At The Wonkey Donkey Sanctuary we have found that the donkeys are really receptive of the Reiki energy and it is a joy to see these beautiful animals showing their appreciation in various ways such as laying down relaxing, standing up in a relaxed state and even pressing their head or body against our hands. Amongst the family groups, there is one group of 8 donkeys in particular to mention and they are…The lovely little ‘Angel’ (her name is well suited) and her equally lovely family, Starlight, Topaz, Magic, Millie, Tippi, Poppy and the only boy Toby. They are a very happy and friendly group of donkeys that have been blessed with a nice life which they continue to have at the Sanctuary.
On our very first visit to the Sanctuary they each took turns to come out into their stable yard to receive some Reiki. This was also repeated on our second visit.
By our third visit they were all lined up outside in their stable yard all happily receiving Reiki, to the amusement of visitors who asked if they could take photo’s and commented on how cute they looked, as though they were all lining up for a race.
Little Angel is poorly and has been on medication, with this in mind spending time with Angel and her family is a priority on each visit.
With the weather turning warmer it was possible to join them in their paddock. All 8 donkeys were happily grazing close together and within minutes of sending Reiki from the edge of the paddock, one by one they all laid down in the middle of the field thoroughly enjoying the relaxing energy.
The following week, when approaching their paddock only 5 of them could be visibly seen in the field and Angel wasn’t one of them. Standing at the fence, Reiki was directed towards the donkeys, including Angel even though she was hidden from sight. Within minutes the lovely Angel appeared from inside the feeding hut and came walking over to where I was standing.
Angel looked a little out of sorts and not quite as relaxed as she normally did. As the relaxing energy flowed Angel laid down in front of me, immediately joined by four more of her family who walked over to Angel and laying down next to her, they made themselves comfortable. The 5 donkeys lay there for over 20 minutes to the amusement of the next group of visitors who were commenting on how the donkeys looked like huge dogs just laying down relaxing.
Once the treatment was completed three of the donkeys continued to relax, one of them had a nice roll around on the ground and Angel stood up and came over to me at the fence, before walking off into the field to join the rest of her family grazing on grass, looking a lot brighter in herself after enjoying taking time out for some R&R… Rest and Reiki.
We expect that Reiki will help the donkeys in more ways than just relaxing them. The reaction of the donkeys suggests that they are certainly enjoying their weekly therapy sessions and feeling a benefit.
